A Conversation with Muneeb Ahmed: Building Trust Through Insight

1. Tell us about your journey. Who is Muneeb — and what is it about being in audit that drives you?

I’m a curious and analytical person by nature who finds purpose in uncovering how things work, identifying gaps, and helping build better and more resilient systems. I joined AGTL in February 2021 as a Lead Auditor, and I’ve had the privilege of growing into the role of Head of Internal Audit in May 2022. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, and I attribute it largely to the trust placed in me by AFG Internal Audit leadership.

What drives me in audit is its unique ability to see across the whole organization — both operationally and strategically — identify risks, and add value through objective insights and recommendations. I see Internal Audit not just as a review function but as a strategic business partner in building a stronger, more resilient company.

2. What’s one surprising thing people don’t realize about how audits actually help teams — beyond catching mistakes?

Internal Audit is not about pointing out what’s wrong; it’s about helping get it right! Our role is to provide independent oversight that strengthens controls, improves processes, and proactively manages risks.

Internal Audit is not a police department that finds faults in every nook and corner — which is a total misconception. When approached collaboratively, an audit can be a catalyst for process improvement and better decision-making. HoDs with an enabling mindset and a collaborative approach are a testament to the value that Internal Audit reviews bring to their domains.

3. If you could change one mindset across the company to make our systems stronger, what would it be?

Move away from a “can’t-do” mindset to a “can-do” attitude, and be more proactive rather than reactive. Pay attention to detail, but never lose sight of the bigger picture.

4. What’s been your proudest moment leading the audit function — something that reaffirmed why this work matters?

There have been many proud moments, but what I find most fulfilling is seeing audit recommendations translated into real, measurable impact — whether it’s cost savings through process optimization, mitigating operational and compliance risks, or improving internal controls.

A classic example of how Internal Audit can go beyond compliance to drive value, improve operational effectiveness, and support long-term business goals is the development of a dedicated test-drive track at the AGTL Factory — a critical function we recommended to ensure tractor quality before delivery.

5. Outside of work, what keeps you inspired and balanced?

I find inspiration and balance through travel, especially to the mountains and historical sites. Exploring new places not only offers a break from routine but also broadens my perspective and deepens my appreciation for culture and history. I also enjoy reading and learning about topics beyond audit and finance, which helps me stay intellectually curious and gain fresh perspectives.

Leading Internal Audit is a responsibility I take with great seriousness and pride, and I remain committed to adding value, building trust, and supporting the company’s long-term success in every way I can.
